Purpose and Scope

The Lead, Regional Value Evidence (VE) is accountable for creating and executing local and regional VE strategies and tactics within their assigned product and/or sub-region or country, represented in the core Medical Plans (CMP), and integrated Evidence Generation Plans, and ensures impactful value evidence communication. The Lead, VE will ensure prioritization of value evidence generation activities to demonstrate the value of Astellas’ compounds to relevant external stakeholders including but not limited to Payers/HTA, HCPs, policy makers, and patients and to optimize the likelihood to obtain and maintain market access for the assigned Astellas products. The Lead is responsible for representing the VE voice in the Regional Brand Teams as well as extended member in Local Brand Teams as required and seeking alignment of VE activities with Global Value Evidence. This role requires in-depth understanding of the local healthcare environment and close partnership with local and regional Market Access and Medical teams to optimize insight translation into VE strategies that support the Brand Strategy.  

The Lead, Regional VE will support local VE colleagues in designated countries and will work directly with medical, market access, marketing and regulatory staff in assigned countries where no local VE is present.

This position requires excellent interpersonal skills to support effective partnerships with key internal stakeholders (including Local Brand Team Leads and Members, Global VE product leads, Global Brand Strategy co-Leads, Asset Maximization Team co-Leads, Medical Communications Leads, Global and Affiliate Medical Leads) and external stakeholders (such as KEE and data owners).

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic discussions of Value Evidence needs, priorities, challenges and impact as core or extended members of assigned Local and Regional Brand Team
  • Responsible to develop VE strategies and tactics that are evidence based, scientifically valid, and medically relevant and patient focused; address the drivers, barriers and needs of local HTA, payers, patients, health care providers, policy makers and regulators in line with global and local brand plans, and are integrated in the Core Medical Plans and integrated Evidence Generation Plans. The results produced by the VE  Lead must be in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Responsible for delivery and dissemination of value evidence including but not limited to real world evidence (including both primary data collection and secondary data use), comparative effectiveness, patient reported outcomes, post hoc analyses, epidemiologic data, and patient experience data for assigned Astellas products, address business needs, and supports patient access and HTA/reimbursement requirements with expectations for peer-reviewed publications relevant to VE strategies including but not limited to publications and development of medical materials.
  • Ensure timely availability of value evidence to inform the development local Value Dossiers and local economic analyses, in partnership with Market Access based on local HTA needs in alignment with local brand teams.
  • Ensure prioritization of value evidence generation activities balancing external stakeholders’ needs including but not limited to Payer/HTA, HCPs, Regulators, and other healthcare decision makers, and patients
  • Responsible for critical evaluation and interpretation of generated evidence to enable impactful and compelling value evidence communication/dissemination.
  • Contribute evidence-based medical/clinical components of local value dossiers and local economic model adaptations - may be accountable for (portions of) of local value dossiers or local economic analyses when required by local codes/regulations
  • Responsible to validate medical and scientific accuracy of local economic model adaptations and local value/HTA dossiers.

  • Maintain an integrated partnership within global/regional/local Medical Affairs and cross-functional colleagues including local Market Access and Regulatory Affairs to identify collaborative opportunities, ensure optimal alignment, leverage resources, and support business priorities
  • Maintain relationships with key external stakeholders such as KEE, patient advocacy groups, healthcare providers.
  • Deliver Value Evidence for Regulators, HTA/payers, HCP, and other stakeholders to inform unmet clinical and economic need, disease burden, epidemiology, treatment landscape, treatment patterns, real-world experience, and competitive differentiation.
  • Actively promote strategic collaborations with other Astellas VE colleagues across the globe to share and replicate best practices and advance VE initiatives to support the Astellas product portfolio and patient access
  • Represent Astellas on VE issues at national/international forums, conferences and professional associations and trade associations, including monitoring ad communicating activities by such forums to executive leadership
  • Actively monitor the changing local health care landscape to anticipate future needs of internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with Astellas leadership to address those needs.

Essential Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree (PharmD, PhD, MD) with consideration for MPH or other advanced degree in Life Sciences, Health Economics or Epidemiology with relevant advanced industry experience
  • >3-5 years relevant experience in at least one of the following fields: Outcomes Research, Health Economics, Clinical or Outcomes Research, Epidemiology, Health Policy
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Expertise in understanding interface between clinical practice and outcomes research
  • Expertise in leveraging outcomes data in the appropriate clinical context
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills working within cross-functional teams
  • Thorough understanding of global guidelines as they relate to Outcomes Research
  • Expertise in local HTA/payer reimbursement and market access requirements
  • A collaborative style of working and a strong sense of ethics, compliance and integrity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Expertise in pharmaceutical research design and methods as well as excellent project and vendor management skills
